Toronto, ON, Canada — Today at the Ontario Health Association’s (OHA) HealthAchieve conference in Toronto, Accentus Inc. and CHIM Consulting Inc. announced they have signed teaming agreements. By leveraging their combined industry expertise, resources and data analysis software, Accentus and CHIM will offer coding re-abstraction studies, data quality and analysis consulting services to health care organizations throughout Canada. .

“Engaging experienced professional and objective HIM experts to carry out the audit ensures an accurate and impartial view of the quality of the data,” said Doris Gemmell Director of Coding Services at Accentus.“Working with CHIM enables us to offer clients the best of our combined expertise using experienced, certified HIM professionals with multiple years’ experience in coding and re-abstraction studies with the best data analysis software available to accurately validate data quality.”

Independent validation of data quality has many direct benefits for hospitals and the quality of coding affects numerous aspects of hospital operations.“Organizations are utilizing data to plan and improve care,” said Gail Crook, CEO of CHIM Inc. “Timely and accurate data is essential to making effective evidence-based decisions, which ultimately impacts any health care organizations ability to meet the health care needs of its patients.”

Indicators such as such as the Hospital Standardized Mortality Rate (HSMR) provide vital information using coded and abstracted data from the patient record.Hospitals use the data and tie it to actions to make a difference in quality of care.As provinces link funding formulas more closely with data, as Ontario is doing using Health Based Allocation Model (HBAM), ensuring the accuracy of coding and abstracting is more important than ever.Re-abstraction studies ensure that the information used by government and other agencies to support the health care system truly represents the complexity of patient care and the services provided to them.

To learn more about the coding re-abstraction services visit Accentus Inc. and CHIMA at Ontario HealthAchieve between the 5th – 7th November 1012 at the Metro Toronto Convention Center. Accentus Inc. is at booth #920 and CHIMA is at booth #1229.
